Attraction Highlight: Dells Boat Tours

Since the mid-1850’s, Wisconsin Dells has been an iconic vacation destination made famous by H.H. Bennett and his unique photographs of the landscape surrounding the Wisconsin River. As photographs spread across the nation of the beautiful sandstone bluffs and rock formations in the area, visitors started coming from all over just to see a glimpse of these rocks in person. In the early 1900’s, river guides provided tourists with a view of these famous rocks from rowboats, followed by paddle-wheeled steamers, and eventually motorized boats. Now, there are 17 tour boats that carry visitors up and down the Wisconsin River on a Dells Boat Tour to see the scenic wonders of Wisconsin Dells.

Dells Boat Tours offers different ways to see the river while learning about the natural history of the area. Upper Dells Boat Tours begin just beyond the bridge in Downtown Wisconsin Dells and take you up river to unique ports. You’ll see the narrows as well as iconic sandstone formations like Chimney Rock, Blackhawk’s Profile and Romance Cliff. The Lower Dells Boat Tours begin just below the dam and take you past some of the Dells’ most famous rock formations, including the Baby Grand Piano, Hawk‘s Bill and the beautiful Rocky Islands. Dells Boat Tours also offers a Sunset Dinner Cruise on the Upper Wisconsin River, which provides amazing scenery at sunset as well as a delicious meal, live music, and a torchlight stroll through Witches Gulch. In the autumn season, Dells Ghost Boat provides a frightening tour up river after dark for a memorable and haunted adventure.
